Through a wealth of archive and performance that brings us into Richard’s complicated inner world, the film unspools the icon’s life story with all its switchbacks and contradictions. In interviews with family, musicians, and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself. Throughout his life, Richard careened like a shiny cracked pinball between God, sex and rock n’ roll. The world tried to put him in a box, but Richard was an omni being who contained multitudes – he was unabashedly everything. Ce robot, on le connaît bien : il s’agit d’Optimus, l’humanoïde développé par Tesla. À l’occasion de la sortie du nouveau film Tron, il s’est paré des couleurs du long-métrage avant de faire une démonstration spectaculaire de coups de pied sur le tapis rouge d’Hollywood — sous les yeux d’un Jared Leto, acteur principal, impassible… ou peut-être simplement confus. Si la scène peut sembler un peu inquiétante, les démonstrations d’arts martiaux sont en réalité un bon moyen de montrer les capacités d’un robot : son agilité, son équilibre, sa stabilité sur un pied ou encore la fluidité de ses mouvements. Un tel enchaînement demande d’ailleurs énormément de temps de développement. Ce n’est pas la première fois qu’un humanoïde se met au kung-fu : en mars dernier, Unitree — le grand rival chinois de Tesla — avait publié une vidéo de son propre robot exécutant des enchaînements similaires de coups de poing et de pied. Rassurez-vous cependant : ces robots ne sont pas encore capables de se battre seuls. Toutes ces démonstrations restent soigneusement préprogrammées. Mais maintenant qu’Optimus a trouvé un nouveau concurrent, on attend avec curiosité la rencontre entre le robot géant chinois et celui de Tesla.
